Malcolm

Background

Malcolm studied a traditional A levels in Woodwork and Engineering Drawing & Design and Mathematics.

Next he studied Design & Technology (B.Ed. Hons) at Shoreditch College. This involved wood, metal and plastics, and elementary ergonomics, 3D Design.

After teaching for six years he set up his first studio in 1989. Initially designing and making unique, fully bespoke designs which included seating for those with bad backs. Over time certain patterns began to emerge and he decided to evolve a range of ergonomic furniture.  In 1997 he moved to his present Studio & gallery in Cromford.

Here the range rapidly developed into the designs you see today.

The ergonomics come partly from the B.Ed course, partly from measuring clients and partly from experimentation & feed back. While there are several threads to the designs they are all based on each other. Each design is constantly tweaked and from time to time an all new design breaks through. While most new designs evolve from old designs, some spring from the back of an envelope.... They are all developing, both ergonomically and in style.
